Most people asking about lip filler don’t want bigger lips. They want lips that match the rest of their face — a defined border, a bit of height, symmetry between top and bottom.

That’s an achievable, quiet result, and it’s what we do most of. If you want dramatic volume we’ll build toward it across sessions rather than in one appointment, because lips that are overfilled in a single visit tend to migrate above the lip border and are difficult to walk back.

What we use

Hyaluronic acid fillers formulated specifically for lips — softer and more flexible than structural fillers, so lips still move and feel natural. Most contain lidocaine.

Product choice depends on the goal: a soft, spreadable filler for hydration and subtle volume; a slightly firmer one for defining a border or adding height.

The lip flip alternative. A small amount of BOTOX® at the upper lip border relaxes the muscle so the lip rolls slightly outward, showing more pink. It adds no volume and lasts two to three months, but for someone with a thin-appearing upper lip and a strong muscle it can be the better answer — and it’s considerably cheaper. We’ll tell you if you’re a candidate.

What to expect

Consultation. We look at lip proportion relative to your face, existing asymmetry, and your lip’s natural anatomy — then plan an amount and placement.

Numbing. Topical anesthetic for 20 minutes. Lips are among the most sensitive areas we treat, and we don’t rush this step.

Treatment. 20–30 minutes. Needle or cannula depending on the goal.

Immediately after. Significant swelling. Lips swell more than any other filler area, and you should expect to look overfilled for two to three days. This is normal and not the result.

For 48 hours: ice in short intervals, sleep elevated, no strenuous exercise, no alcohol, no straws, nothing hot.

Results and longevity

• Days 1–3: peak swelling — do not judge anything yet
• Days 5–7: most swelling resolved
• Week 2: the actual result
• 6–12 months: typical duration

Investment

Lip filler is priced per syringe, and a lip flip is priced separately as a BOTOX® treatment. Most first-time patients use half to one full syringe — starting with half is a completely reasonable choice. You’ll get your exact quote at your complimentary consultation before anything begins.

Safety and who shouldn’t get it

Expected: substantial swelling, bruising, tenderness, temporary lumpiness.

Cold sores. Lip filler can trigger an outbreak if you’re prone to them. Tell us — we’ll prescribe antiviral medication to start before your appointment.

Vascular occlusion is rare but serious. We keep hyaluronidase on site at all times.

Migration — filler moving above the lip border, creating a shelf — is usually the result of overfilling, too-frequent treatment, or the wrong product. It’s the main reason we treat conservatively and space appointments properly.

Not appropriate if you: are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active cold sore or infection, have a history of anaphylaxis, or have a lidocaine allergy.
